Joel L Denton
Joel is a native of Chattanooga. He received a Bachelor of Science in Music Education Degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and completed his graduate studies at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Joel has served as Director of Bands at Ooltewah High School for twenty-seven years. Under his direction, the Ooltewah Band has achieved a national reputation for musical excellence. He has served as Chairman of the Fine Arts Department at Ooltewah since 1982. He was selected as Teacher of the Year in 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2009. He was the Beta Club Teacher of the Year in 1995. The Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts has twice honored him for outstanding teaching and mentoring. His professional affiliations includes membership in the Music Educators National Conference, Tennessee Music Educators Association, East Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association, Phi Beta Mu, and Tennessee Bandmasters Association. He is active as an adjudicator, clinician, and consultant for bands throughout the nation. He is founder of Covenant Consultants, which works with bands, schools, and professional organizations on developing leadership and teambuilding skills. Mr. Denton and his wife Kerry of twenty-five years, have two children, Alex and Caroline. |
