2015-2016 Color Guard Tryouts
Have you ever thought about being a part of the Ooltewah High School Color Guard? If so, then be sure to circle May 12-14, 2015 on your calendar.
Come to the OHS Band Room from 2:45 – 4:30pm on these days to find out more about the sport of color guard, learn some routines, and have the opportunity to become a part of this creative & active group.
Color Guard at OHS is part of the Marching Band program. While the band performs the music the Color Guard interprets the music through dance and the creative use of costumes and equipment (like flags, rifles, and swing flags). The Guard helps to give life to the music the band is playing.
Being part of the OHS Marching Band program means that you get to travel to some exciting events too. In the past few years, the band and guard have marched in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Disney Christmas Parade, and the Chicago Thanksgiving Day Parade. They have also performed alongside the UTK Band at a halftime show in Neyland Stadium. In addition, the band competes as part of Bands of America (BOA) and is planning a trip to the BOA National Championships in November.
OHS has a strong Guard program that has been growing over the past couple of years. We now have two Winterguard units (Varsity and JV) that compete both at the regional and national levels. This year, the Varsity Winterguard made a strong showing at WGI World Championships in Ohio and progressed to the Semi-Final round of competition. In 2014, OHS won 1st place at Regional Championships in our division. Winterguard is essentially an indoor version of Color Guard that uses recorded music instead of performing alongside a band.
So, come on out on May 12-14 and see what opportunities await you as a potential OHS Color Guard member!
